Emanuel Lutheran Church was established in 1882, formed by the tightly knit Swedish community working in the mills of North Grosvenordale. In September, 1884, the little sanctuary, fifty feet long and thirty feet wide, was completed. By 1895, the congregation had grown too big for the little church in the pines. In 1896, the present church on Main Street was completed and has stood mostly unshaken ever since. The hurricane of 1938 destroyed the steeple, but it was replaced in 1939.
Today, the people of Emanuel are a more diverse, but still tightly knit community, welcoming to all who seek to worship and understand God.
The stained glass windows lining both sides of the sanctuary were designed and crafted by longtime church member Casey Koller.
